Simply Create Too – Challenge #151 – July 5 to July 26 – AG/Opt Twist Use Pattern Paper

1 Simply Create 2 DT
This month at Simply Create Too, the design team is looking for a project that uses patterned paper. My little grandson just celebrated his 6th birthday. When he was born I made him a lovely picture for his wall using the saying “what are little boys made of.” Fast forward 6 years, and he feels it is a little too “baby” for him. So me, in my wisdom, told him I would make him a new picture, I problem, I asked him what he would like. His immediate response was Black Panther!. OMG, how do I do a 3D picture of BP? Well, I search the web and was able to purchase an SVG file of the Black Panther character, one of Africa and one of the BP script. Hours later I put it all together-never again!
I found fabulous 12 x 12 leafy patterned paper for the background. I cut all my main images using my Cricut Explorer Air. I welded the BP logo on the map of Africa and cut it out approximately 7″ tall from a map patterned cardstock. I backed the logo with black cardstock then added it to the background using one layer of foam tape so start the 3D effect. Because the Cricut will not cut edge to edge on the 12 x 12 mat, I created a grass border frame 11 x 11 and layered it on the background using 2 layers of foam tape. Next, I added the Black Panther figure with 3 layers of foam tape. For the final steps, I added various die cut leaves from my collections of die -Memory Box, MFT, Penny Black, SSS.
The Black Panther SVG was my first attempt at a multi-layered image. I think the SVG was designed more for a t-shirt then for my purpose and the details were extremely hard to do. I had problems with glue showing as I had to lift and reposition lines multiple times. To resolve the issue, I sprayed it with semi-matte lacquer. After 3 coats it covered the glue.
I also made Brock’s birthday cards using the same BP character but I printed the image on my colour HP printer and layered it on the Africa cut. He loved it. If you have any questions, please email me for more details.
