Simply Create Too Challenge 165 - Use only Purple and Black

When the Simply Create Too Design Team was asked to create a card using only 2 colours - Black and Purple - I was not sure how I could make a colour using those two colours. I put my thinking hat on and tried modifying an embossing folder I received with a purchase of a craft magazine. I embossed it using both a purple and a black piece of card stock and cut the finished design at the sentiment and pieced it together to create a two coloured card. I added 3 black gems to complete the design.

After completing my first card, I realized I could use multiple shades of purple to create a card. I started with a 5 x 7 sheet of white Neenah Solar White Cardstock and inked it with all my shades of Distress and Distress Oxide Inks. Once that was done, I decided to add circles of colour using a stencil I created with my circle dies and punches for a bokeh effect. I also slashed the inks with water to complete the background. Next, I used a simple butterfly frame in black and added a die-cut sentiment from SSS.

Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge October 2020

This month's Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge. I decided on a Halloween/Fall theme. Nothing says fall like a pumpkin and Halloween like a black cat! I made this adorable box card (folds flat) with my Cricut Explore Air and the SVG file from My Scrap Chick "Cat and Pumpkin Box Card." I used patterned paper from my stash for the cat, pumpkin, and leaf.  The stamped sentiment and cat on the card back is for SSS called, "Hey Pumpkin."

Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge 509 - For Someone Special

 

This week at the Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge, we are looking for a card for Someone Special. Every card I create is for someone special.  I try to never make the same card twice, and if the recipient wasn't special, I wouldn't take the time, care, and love it put into each card. This week's card is a gatefold card with a belly band. I have a friend that each your I create a special Christmas Tree Card for. I used my Cricut Explore Air and the Christmas Tree SVG file from Simply Crafty SVGs. The sentiment is from MFT. I started by selecting my papers. I used pale green glitter paper, hologram green for inside tree, gold foil paper for the star, and fun dots for the accents.

Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge 508 - Include the Word Joy

 

This week the Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge Design Team are looking for something with the word Joy. For my card I used a super adorable Santa SVG from Cricut Access in Design Space. The joy banner is also from Cricut Access in Design Space but I reduced the size to fit the arm span of Santa. To make the image as a card, I simply cut out two of the largest shadow and glued them together at the top. It is hard to see in the photo, but I made the beard from white and white glitter cardstock.

Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge 507 - Include Some Plaid, Checked or Gingham Paper

 

This week at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge we are looking for Plaid, Checked, or Gingham paper. I decided to go with the popular Buffalo Plaid. I made a plaid lumberjack style coat (aka: Canadian Tuxedo). I used papers from Photoplay including the sentiment. For that extra fun, I added a fluffy collar, cuffs, and pocket detail. The SVG design is from SVG Cuts. I hope you like this one as much as I enjoyed making it. Note: I made this card using my Cricut Explore Air.

Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge 506 - Use Some Patterned Paper

 

This week at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge we are looking for the use of patterned paper. I used one of Michael's Reflection Paper Pads featuring Christmas Cats and Dogs. The front sentiment is from MFT and inside sentiment by Paper Smooches. I used a SVG file for a shutter card by fellow card maker, Sha-Rah. You can also find many tutorials on Pinterest, Google Search, and YouTube.

Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge September 2020

For my Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge month card I made a special card for my friends Pearl and Wendy's grandchildren. The Canadian Mint came out with a special limited edition of our two dollar coin in 2019 to honour the WWII servicemen who serviced during D-Day (June 6,1944). These coins were only available to purchase in a roll of 25. So I decided to purchase a roll and display them in a card along with information about D-Day. September marked the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII. I used Stampendous's stamp and dies called Pretty Poppies. I coloured them with Copic Markers. I cut 1 1/2" circles from the front patterned paper. The coins were put into covered coin holders to show both the front and back of the coins. Inside the card, I included the write-up.
The background papers have metallic flowers and they don't always photograph well for me.

As an added note: both my Mother and Father serviced in the Canadian Army in World War II. My mother was a driver/CWACS (she never got to go overseas because you had to be 100 pounds and she couldn't gain the weight!) and my father worked in stores. He was in London when Germany surrendered. He had the choice of staying on the help with the cleanup or signing on for the "Pacific Conflict". He chose the latter but by the time the ship hit Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Japan had surrendered so he was sent home. When the men come home they had a decision to make. They could have a world time house (1 1/2 storey home), go the school, or work for the government. My mother being just a woman got nothing. My father became a Professional Engineer (Mechanical ENG) and joined the Reserves where he served as a Captain.
